Mrs. Canner's Ginger Cookies



Mrs. Clarabelle Canner and her husband, Phil, used to come to stay with my family when I was growing up. They were missionaries to the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas. In the fall, they would come to visit the migrant workers who came to pick apples. Mrs. Canner always baked Ginger Cookies for everyone.



3/4 cup shortening

1 cup sugar

1 egg

2 cups flour

4 Tbls molasses

1 1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp ginger

1 tsp cloves

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp cinnamon


Mix. Roll into ball size of walnut and then roll in sugar.

Bake 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
